24 hour Emergency Care for your pet

In the past:

Our veterinarians would carry a pager or mobile phone so that we were accessible 24 hrs and clients would contact us to meet at the clinic for emergencies. However, we found that we could not provide efficient and proper Veterinary attention, if our Veterinarians and Nurses have been working all night and day.

Now:

In view of this we have made arrangements for specialist After Hours Veterinary Hospitals to take care of our patients for emergencies after hours. Please contact:

Pet Emergency Centre - 1103 Dandenong Rd, Malvern East - Phone 9569 3677
Animal Accident and Emergency - Main Terminal, Essendon Airport - Phone 9379 0700 (via ring rd very fast)
Animal Emergency Centre - 37 Blackburn Road, Mt Waverley - Phone 9803 8122

The advantages of using a specialist After-Hours Veterinary Hospital are:

  • They are open when we are shut, and shut when we are open.
  • After hours are normal hours for them i.e. their Veterinarians and Nursing staff only work these hours, so they will be fresh, alert, and ready to attend to your pet.
  • The Animal Emergency Centre is a specialist Animal Emergency Centre only, with highly specialised equipment and facilities and skills to service all your pet's emergency needs during those hours.
  • Your pet will then be discharged back to us the next morning, with a complete medical record and history for ongoing care. This gives you continuity and ensures your pets health records remain complete at your clinic.
  • Any critically ill patient in our care that needs to be monitored intensively 24 hours a day, can be transferred to the A.E.C for overnight monitoring. This will allow constant intensive care if needed.
  • Your pet will have access to high quality Veterinary attention and care 24 hrs a day.

How far will I have to travel ?

Between 7 pm and 8 am traffic is minimal.

All centres are about thirty minutes from Eltham at that time of night.

A local clinic with an after hours Veterinarian on duty would not save time, and there would possibly be a less than adequate service: e.g. delays in contacting the Veterinarian, arranging a time to meet at the clinic, unlocking and opening the clinic, setting up equipment. More importantly, there could be a lack of any Nursing or support staff for assistance and constant monitoring.

If you have an emergency with your pet, always telephone ahead so that we can prepare for your arrival. This applies to our Hospitals as well as the after hours facilities.
